Scarlett Janusas was recently awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in recognition of her decades-long dedication to the preservation and protection of Canada’s marine heritage. The medal was presented by MP Alex Ruff during a ceremony that celebrated the service of many outstanding local volunteers. Scarlett expressed deep gratitude for the honour, feeling privileged to stand alongside so many individuals committed to their communities.
Despite the personal recognition, Scarlett remains humble. She views the award not as an individual achievement, but as a reflection of the collective efforts of the passionate people she’s worked with over the years. For her, the real reward lies in the work itself—and in continuing to share that journey with others.
Scarlett has long combined her love for archaeology with a passion for being on and in the water, becoming one of Canada’s pioneering marine archaeologists. After completing her studies in archaeology, she found opportunities in the male-dominated field limited, often restricted to fieldwork. Undeterred, she launched her own consulting business—a bold move that led to a successful and impactful career.
