The Explosive History of HMS Raleigh

Please join the UASBC on Zoom at 7:00 pm (PST) on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 for a presentation by Dr. Chris Harvey-Clark (Dalhousie University):

The Explosive History of HMS Raleigh: UXO Residues Research at the site of a Heavy Cruiser Wreck in Labrador.

The HMS Raleigh was a Hawkins-class heavy cruiser launched in 1921 and lost in 1922 at the site of the most prominent lighthouse in Labrador, at Point Amour. Her history and the explosive legacy of her munitions resulted in a study of presence of explosive compound residues in the marine ecosystem surrounding the wreck.  Dr. Harvey-Clark will describe the findings of an August 2018 expedition to collect benthic and animal samples for toxicology and document the wreck.
